Ecuador Amazon Parrot Project

VIDEO: LATEST UPDATE FROM THE ECUADOR AMAZON PARROT PROJECT
THE ECUADOR AMAZON PARROT IS ONE OF THE RAREST BIRDS IN THE WORLD AND ITS POPULATION IS DECREASING DUE TO HABITAT DESTRUCTION. OUR TEAM OF EXPERTS HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH OUR PROJECT PARTNERS TO BRING THESE AMAZING BIRDS BACK FROM THE BRINK OF EXTINCTION. (https://www.actforwildlife.org.uk)

The Chester Zoo team have been working in Ecuador to assess the current population of the parrots, as well as their habitat. They’ve also been hard at work installing nest boxes and working with the local community to increase their understanding of the parrots’ behaviour.
Our project partners, FundaciĆ³n Pro-Bosque, are based in the dry forests of the Cerro Blanco, running assessments and also protecting the forest from fires, hunters and other threats to the ecosystem. We’re also working with local independent biologists with invaluable knowledge of the area and the animals.
